Project Moonshine is a non-profit organization designed to teach filmmaking skills to students by providing opportunities to document important events happening in their community. Started in 2006, by Michael Albright, Project Moonshine has made documentaries on a variety of subjects including, Sonic Youth, Califone, Tour de Nez, Artown, Nevada Beekeepers, Orchestra Baobab, and Dada Motel. Although Project Moonshine is not exclusively based in Reno, Nevada, most of our projects focus on events happening in Northern Nevada.

In November, 2008, Project Moonshine was invited to the  Thessaloniki International Film Festival in Greece to work with students at Aristotle University on a documentary on Orchestra Baobab, a world renown and highly prolific, Senegalese band.

With the help of a wonderful staff including, Dave Pomeranz, Ryan Bartlett, Heather Fuss, Lis Bartlett, Brad Bynum and several moonshine alumni such as Charlie Hayes, Nathan Lower and Allana Noyes, Project Moonshine has flourished as an organization with a fresh approach that combines education, documentary production and civic engagement.  Although Albright is currently working on several projects for his independent documentary production company, Moonpix and pursuing a PhD in film and media studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, he continues to run Project Moonshine every summer.
